With love,
Micaela & Samir
We met by chance.
We stayed by choice.
We love for life.
Believe it or not, we met in San Lorenzo, Paraguay, at a Fulbright scholarship event on a public university campus (deep Paraguay). Samir wasn’t even invited. Mica was applying to Fulbright and looking for help with her personal statement —of course she asked the Americans. Samir, who loves reading and writing, seemed like a good person to ask… and that’s how he got Mica’s number.
A few days later, he tried to invite her out—coffee, an asado, even dinner at Bolsi—but she either said no or didn’t even answer. On his last night before flying back to the U.S., he tried one more time. This time, Mica said yes for coffee. They became friends, and Samir almost missed his flight.
They kept talking and texting. Two months later, Samir had a trip to Santiago and invited Mica to join. She "couldn’t"—so he bought a last-minute flight to have dinner with her anyway.
A few months later, when Mica moved to Europe for her master’s, they met again—this time in Milan, strolling down Corso Como and continuing the conversation… Lake Como, Barcelona, Liverpool, Phoenix, the Canary Islands, Madrid, Asunción—they couldn’t stay away.
For the record: Samir never helped with the purpose letter, and Mica didn’t get the Fulbright 🤭😂
